Why do companies NOT put the Model # of their product?
on their product? To find out my work cell phone is a Treo 700, I must pull the battery. My Roomba vacuum doesn’t seem to have it anywhere.
Can anyone explain this?

Well, it all started with advanced exchange in repair
That made it possible to request an RMA online for a defective product, have a replacement shipped to you, and then you would need to send the defective product back… nice isn’t it.
Then people got wise to this scenario and walked into stores, wrote down the product id and serial, went home an requested an rma for ‘their’ defective product.
This lead to several millions in swap devices being send to customers, without ever receiving a defective product.
Now they could do 2 things:
-write to everybody that they are missing products , have a crappy tracking system so they don’t know who’s device is missing, and would you please confirm you send the product. Resulting in loads of work hours that don’t lead to anything (yeah i send in last month, you didn’t get it??)
-write off the losses and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
So product ident labels go inside the cover from now on.
